Action

  • Non opioid analgesic
  • It is centrally acting

Adult Dose

Moderate acute and chronic pain

Oral

  • Dose: 60mg PO
  • Dose range: 30-90 mg tid
  • Max: 300 mg daily
  • Elderly: Initially 30 mg tid

Intramuscular

  • Dose: 20mg IM every 6 hrly

Intravenous

  • Dose: 20 mg slow IV inj every 4 hrs
  • Max: 120 mg daily

∗Patient should be lying down while receiving inj and should remain so for 15-20 min

Special Condition

  • Renal Impairment
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Lactation
  • Pregnancy

Contraindication

  • History of convulsive disorders

  • Hypotension

  • Paresthesia

  • Nervousness

  • Tachycardia
  • Euphoria
  • Hallucinations
  • Convulsions
  • Temporary pink discolouration of the urine

Precaution

  • Glaucoma, Urinary retention, Hepatic or renal impairment
  • Pregnancy

Interaction

  • Adverse effects increased  with antimuscarinic or sympathomimetic drugs
  • Increased risk of seizures with TCAs
  • Increased CNS depressant effects with other sedatives
  • Potentially Fatal
  • Additive sympathomimetic effects with MAOIs.
