Action

  • Inhibition of Prostaglandin Synthesis in CNS.

Adult Dose

Mild to Moderate Pain, Fever & Headache

Dose : 500mg 4-6 hrly PO

Max : 8 tab/day (4 gm)

Intravenous

> 50 Kg

  • Dose: 1g Bid-qid IV Infusion
  • Infusion time: 15 min
  • Max: 4g daily

33 to 50 Kg

  • Dose: 15 mg/kg bid-qid IV infusion
  • Infusion time: 15 min
  • Max: 60 mg/kg/day

Child Dose

Mild to moderate Pain & Fever & Post -immunization pyrexia

Oral

  • <3 Month : 40 mg
  • 4-11 Month : 80 mg tid PO
  • 1-2 year : 120 mg tid PO
  • 2-3 Year : 160mg tid PO
  • 4-5 Year : 240 mg tid PO
  • 6-12 Year : 250-500 mg tid PO

Rectal Suppository

  • 3 Months: 1 Year : 60-125 mg tid
  • 1-5 Year: 125-250 mg tid
  • 5-12 Years: 250-500 mg tid
  • >12 Year: 500mg-1 g tid
  • Max: 4 dose/day

Contraindication

  • Hypersensitivity

  • Hypotension and Tachycardia
  • Potentially Fatal: Stevens-Johnson Syndrome
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis
  • Acute renal tubular necrosis and hepatotoxicity

Precaution

  • Patient with chronic alcoholism, Known G6PD deficiency, severe hypovolemia, chronic malnutrition.
  • Renal and hepatic impairment
  • Pregnancy and Lactation
  • Monitoring parameters Monitor serum paracetamol levels especially when acute overdose is suspected and with Longterm use.

Internation

  • May reduce serum levels with anticonvulsants
  • May enhance the anticoagulant effect of Warfarin and other coumarins with prolonged use
  • Accelerated absorption with metoclopramide and domperidone
  • May increase serum levels with probenecid
  • may increase serum levels of chloramphenicol
  • May reduce absorption with cholestyramine with in 1 hour of admin
  • May cause severe hypothermia with phenothiazine.
